********************************************************************* 09.10.2001 PlugInd version 1.1 Changes: more plugins added. Delays measured by Lauri Sydanmaanlakka. ********************************************************************* PlugInd - Plugin delay indicator for Cubase VST (TM) ---------------------------------------------------- by GonZoft (r) International http://GonZoft.tripod.com/ This little program shows you the delay caused by one or more plugins inserted into a Cubase VST channel or group. The delay is displayed in Cubase inspector units (sixteenth notes and ticks). The purpose is to give you the exact information by exactly how many inspector units you have to pre-delay (i.e. advance) the audio channels routed to a group in order to compensate the total delay caused by all plugins inserted into this group. The momentarily plugins displayed by PlugInd are the Cubase VST included ones, FreeFilter and the Waves Gold Bundle. Don't wonder if many plugins display a delay of 0.0, that's because they just do not cause any relevant delay. You will also see that e.g. the dynamics section of Cubase VST, FreeFilter and Waves compressors and pitchshifters cause huge delays. IMPORTANT: the displayed inspector units depend on the used samplerate, system resolution and tempo of the song. Don't forget to enter this parameters when calculating delays with PlugInd. Be also aware of that the next time you run the program, it will remember the parameters you entered the last time. This program is freeware and doesn't cost you a penny. In return, we ask you to e-mail to us delays (in samples) of plugins you are aware and sure of. We'll include them in the program-code, so that they will be available to all users. Also, feel free to e-mail us questions, suggestions, or bug reports. Our e-mail: GonZoft@hotmail.com Users of PulsarXTC: ------------------- We are not very sure if the card's own delay is system dependent or not, so check if it works with your system. We measured it using CreamWare IOs (PowerSampler STDM connected with XTC) and apparently (according to CreamWare) the delay would be higher with a non STDM-CreamWare IO card. We didn't test that. If you want to insert more than one XTC effect into a group, use the MultiFX interface, else you'll get the delay above for every single plugin you insert. Be aware that the XTC plugins have delays in addition to the delay above. However, these are quite small. If you know or measure them, e-mail them to us. We would also like to know from you if the delay above is the correct one for your system. Users of Waves plugins ---------------------- Be aware of that the different C1 compressors and gates cause different delays, so make sure that in PlugInd you select exactly the one(s) that you are using. For some spooky reason, UltraPitch's delay doesn't get compensated when inserted into normal Cubase channels. PlugInd will indicate you the delay you have to predelay channels where UltraPitch is inserted. Users of Antares Autotune ------------------------- We have version 1.3 here in the studio, and actually wanted to include it in the program. However, we were not able to sort out the delay. AutoTune definitely causes a significant delay, but a continuously changing one, even within one single bar. (It also does this when inserted into a normal channel with plugin delay compensation switched on!) Use it, if it doesn't hurt your ears. Limitations ----------- Be aware that when you predelay channels routed to a group in order to compensate the delay of plugins inserted into this group, the send-effects of the channels will indeed be played in advance, because they do not pass the group's inserts.
